Google's Gmail service, with users numbering almost 150 million, is an email force. Gmail is a free, advertising-supported Webmail, POP3 and IMAP service provided by Google. Since its’ intitial launch as an invitation only release on April 1, 2004, finally becoming available to the public on February 7, 2007, Gmail has become the email service of choice for many, supplanting the likes of Microsoft’s Hotmail, AOL mail service, and Yahoo! mail.

Tomorrow, however, may mark the service's entry into an entirely new realm, Social Media.
